Week 20 Choice Week!

Students,
This week you may write about any subject that interests you. Take us on an adventure to a far away place, real or imaginary, by using strong verbs and vivid adjectives. Or, describe a scene or a person in lively language to bring us up close to the setting or character. It’s up to you!

Use at least 75 words to write your story, poem, letter or description.

  • As always, do your work in a word processing program first.

  • Revise and edit your work before copying and pasting it into the comment area of the blog.

  • Don’t forget to include your first name and code.

You may post your writing on your own blog this week if you prefer. Note: This assignment is due Monday, February 25, at 8:00 AM.

Challenge: Remember Mary Casanova's tips? One of them was, "Use your 5 senses." This week, try to include details that appeal to at least three of your senses! Help us to hear your brother hopping up the stairs. Let us smell the sweet flavor of morning cinnamon rolls at grandma's. Show us the pink and purple streaks of clouds crisscrossing the blues of the sky just after sunset. See my entry below for other examples.

Happy writing!
Mme Powell

In my entry for this week, I wrote about a topic that doesn't seem very exciting, yet I found lots of interesting things to write about anyway. I could write about it with strong details because it is something I "know". As you read it, look for details that appeal to your senses. Do you feel like you are taking a walk with my dog and me?

Brrr. I slipped my hand into my mitten as quickly as I could after closing the car door. Elsa was already a speeding mass of legs and fur racing to the edge of the woods. There wasn’t much question which of us would win the contest. She just couldn’t wait to catch up on all the new smells since yesterday.

My boots squeaked on the snow as I followed her at my more leisurely pace. I didn’t want to move too slowly this morning though. It was COLD. My woolen-sock covered feet stayed toasty in my snow boots, but my legs were not so lucky. The frosty wind pierced through my sweatpants and the cold crept up under the cuffs. I needed to keep moving. I pulled my hood up over my hatted head to block the frigid air from my cheeks. Almost instantly my breath created icy crystals on the furry trim, but the small relief from the wind was welcome.

I squinted ahead to see how far Elsa had gone. She looked back at me with perked ears and a “come-on-what’s-takin’- ya” expression. Her head cocked to one side and her black nose bore a white patch of snow on its tip. Pretty cute, that rascal.

Laughing, I lifted my heavy boots high and joined the race.

Dear Mme Powell,
Here is my blog assignment:

Miranda ran to the far corner of the Orphanage. Her eyes had tears as big as raindrops in them. She had never been separated from her big brother, Marcus. They had been together their whole life, and the thought of being separated seemed horrible. Marcus came over to Miranda and tried to comfort her. She had her ripped up shirt on, and her dirty jeans. She had been wearing her same socks for at least 5 days now. When she was just 2 years old, her parents had passed away. Ever since, she and her brother were super close. She was going to a family who had 13 kids and still wanted more. They make them do work around the house 4 times a day. She is now going to do 3 hours of chores each day. Life is gonna be miserable! Miranda has had nightmares about her new home. They will lock her up in a room, and make her stay there until the room is spotless. They will make her do everybody's laundry. They will make her cook the meals and do the dishes and clean everybody's room. Her brother was crying too. She had told him about her terrible nightmares and was afraid too.

My family and I were visiting my energetic grandparents in Florida. They have an adorable, tiny, fluffy, white maltese dog. My grandparents live in a beautiful village and during the night you can go downtown and listen to music and watch the stars twinkle in the sky. And guess what, everyone owns a golf cart!!! One night my grandma asked me if I wanted to go for a ride in the golf cart. My eyes lit up at that question and I said yes!!! So my grandma drove me to a parking lot and said that it was my turn to drive. I felt so happy I could drive finally and not wait until I was 15. When my hands touched the wheel it felt so weird. My grandma told me to push my foot down lightly on the pedal. I was cruising in the parking lot in no time I did figure eights and circles. It was so much fun !!! I can’t wait to go to Florida again. It was so exciting to drive a golf cart at the age of 8!!!!!

My story in outer space. I will remember my trip to the planet Earth. There were midgets at 6 foot 5 and there was a building the size of my house they say was the “2nd biggest building in America” and there was this weird sport in Minnesota called Hockey [It’s pathetic] you use 315 dollar pieces of rubber or wood and you go around trying to hurt people. But there was this one amazing sport, baseball, like no other in our world. We would call it “skiscabob” it means the best. I know I will pass this sport on to the humans back in the real world. My next trip is to Mars I will be sure to send you a card. Sincerely ISKIBOBER SNOWKIBOBER.

I like my dog Anya. She is very fun to play with and she can run really fast. She kind of doesn’t like to get a bath. We have had her for four weeks and she is a Rhodesian ridgeback. She loves to play fetch and chase squirrels. She is my second favorite dog I have ever had. When you hit her with her toy she starts to try and bite your hand or arm.

When I walk into the arena, I can smell the popcorn. When I walk into the locker room, I can smell a different fragrance. I sum times I feel cooooold when I walk in.
I can see the white ice.
How it feels to be hit or tripped, the shok of it is parolizing.
When I walk into the arena, I can smell the popcorn. When I walk into the locker room, I can smell a different fragrance. My teammates start crowding in, the room is so loud I can’t hear myself think.
The excitement is building in our bones. We are now getting hyped. The adrenaline is flowing in our bodies.
While the zamboni is finishing the ice, my teammates are insane with excitement. The gate opens, we are like a stampede. My skate finally hits the ice, it feels like we are playing for the Stanley Cup in the final game, because the crowd is roaring. But when the game is about to start there is silence.Finely the puck is dropped! The game is on.
During the game, the time flies by, it seems like it’s the first period but it’s the third period. It’s five to four, it is tense for the both teams.
But when the game is over it’s over and if we win by one it’s a relief, but it’s not over yet you have to get undressed with a bunch of nosy boys! But It’s like my coach says “we win together we lose together”. Thomas j21

My trip to Florida
I spend spring break in Florida almost every year because my grandparents own a condo in Naples. I love Florida because of all the cool coral, pretty shells, lovely weather, beautiful beaches, and warm ocean water.
My story takes place on a boat. We were leaving the dock on the boat to go to an island. The weather was warm and sunny perfect! I was about to start my lunch when all of a sudden I heard a squeak. I turned around and following the boat were three dolphins everybody on board the boat was astonished. My Dad tried to take a picture of the dolphins but they swam away. We continued on the ride until 2 pm when finally we arrived at the island. We were so excited. I went on the beach to look for shells and star fish. My brother decided to go swimming instead of collecting shells. I saw something covered in sand and went over to have a look. What my eyes saw was the prettiest shell and it was in great condition. I called my grandma over and she told me to keep it in a safe place. We returned to the boat and went back to the condo.

THE END!

Dear Mme Powell,
Two weeks ago my family and I went tubing at Christie mountain in Bruce Wisconsin.
We went there with one of our family’s friends. It was a long ride all the way to Wisconsin. It was about six hours long! My little sister Charlotte (yes, the one I wrote about last week) went down once with my parents help, but then she stayed inside. You would get to choose which path you would like to take. There were five in total. The next day, we went skiing there and saw the Blue Hills Beast. He is their mascot who can also ski. Charlotte took ski lessons on the bunny hill and can go on the tow rope with an adult holding her. After all that excitement, we went home and prepared for another busy day at school.

I couldn’t wait I was going to my cabin! But it is a 4 ½ to 5 hour drive.
When my family and I got there, my cousin Sophie was banging on the window.
Everyone greeted us with hugs and kisses. After that we had a dinner of chicken and rice. That night it took me a while to fall asleep. The next morning I went skiing. It was freezing! I only did 3 runs. That night we had a delicious meal of spagetti. The next day was a snow day! We went sledding a lot. After we wached Ariell(my other cousin Annie’s favorite). We went to bed at 10:00. When I woke up the next day and it was time to go home.

Dear Ms. Powell,
This weekend my family and I went to look at houses. At one house, right when I entered, I could smell something weird and strong. Maybe it was the agent’s perfume, or maybe it was the house. My whole family could smell it. There were some free samples in the kitchen. They were yummy chocolates. (I was supposed to eat only one but I had an extra.) I could taste that delicious dark chocolate come to my hungry mouth and then I just gulped the whole thing down. I could feel the nice soft and fuzzy carpet on my feet. And I could also feel the warm heat coming from the fireplace which traveled to my icy face and my fingers which looked and felt like icicles. I could see the nice pretty flower wallpaper, and then the shiny silver paper glowing and shining on me. It was beautiful. But what was even more beautiful was the pretty sunset that shone through the glass window. It was just a phenomenal view. I wished that I brought my camera. Finally, it was time to go. I had a wonderful time there. I will always treasure that special moment.

Yesterday, I called my friend James to see if he could play. He said he was going ice skating at Browndale Park. I thought to myself, I really don’t want to skate but this park has a gigantic icy hill and sledding today would be great fun. I got dressed and put my sled in the back of the car, my mom and I drove to the park. The park isn’t far from our house; it took only minutes to get there. At the park there were a lot of people, someone had made a bonfire for everyone to sit and warm up. In the warming house there was hot coco and smores, and cookies. What a great surprise and great day it was to go to Browndale Park.

Hockey practice

My hockey practice was fun and at the same time it was hard. Our coach said if we mess the drill up we have to do Herbies. If you don’t now what a Herbie is, you skate goal line to blue line to goal line to red line to goal line to far blue line to goal line to other goal line and back. The rest off the team does not like Herbies but I do . At the end off the practice I was very sweaty and tired .The practice was fabulous.

Dear Mme Powell,
I’ve chosen to write about one of my favorite book sires, the Worriers series!!!!!!!
This sires has 15 books in all, there are also comic books of Firestar adventures!!!!
Firestar stared out as a mire kittypet (that’s what the forest cat call a house cat) with the name Rusty When the Clan leader, Bluestar and one of her Worriers (Tigerstar) fond him sitting in their territory. When a clan cat is named, the first part of it’s name will most likely never chang, unless the name witche it is given, no longer soutes the way it looks. So if you were a small gray cat when you where kitten/kit, your name mite be Cinderkit. When you are old inof to be an aprentes, your name would be Cinderpaw. When you get to be a worrier, the last part could cange in to almost anything, like Cinderfur,Cinderclaw,Cinderstrip or anything alss. Lets say you became depudy. Your name would stay the same. But lets say you lost on eye. Your name mite be changed to something like Oneeye. Then your leader dided. Sens your depudy, your Clan leader, and the last part of your name becomes star, so your new name is Onestar. There are 5 forest clans. The first one is Thunder Clan (that’s the one we are led to belive is good, even thou there all enemys at some times, and friends at others) . Then comes Shadow Clan. Tigerstar is banesh from Thunder Clan, and gos off to be leader of Shadow Clan. Then comes Wind Clan. Tallstar is there leader. Then there is River Clan. There leader is Leperdstar. Last but so not least is Star Clan. Star Clan is the Clan Where all the dead worriers go andlook down on all the forest cats. Each and evry star is a dead worrier looking down from Star Clan. Medeson cats and leader have to go to moonston to have speshel dreams , and that’s how Star Clan talks. Only leaders and medeson cat can talk to Star Clan. Star Clan also gives a leader 9 lives. I don’t want to tell you enye more, Because I don’t want to spoel the ending. Sw#12 Cristiana

What I did on Monday
Mountains of toys and games. With all the toys we have a day like that Monday the fun never ends. I had a play date we played with Rokenbok. We built soaring towers with Legos. Played a great game of marbles. W watched our hot wheels fly across the track. And make a marveling radio with my snap circuits pro. After James left I cleaned up the big mess I played with my cars until mom called us for dinner, and to my surprise dad brought Taco Bell.

Before the play date I went bowling with my dad I almost beat dad bowling 106 to 126 on the first game and 107 to 115on the second that game was even closer I told James how close I was to beating dad bowling. And that was what I did on Monday. J25

Hockey is the most action packed sport I have ever played. It let's you hear the joyful sounds of hockey, the slap of the stick hitting the puck and the bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz of the signal of a goal. So that's why I love hockey.
