Week 31 Time sure flies!

While it sometimes seems hard to believe, fourth grade will soon be a memory. In no time at all (at least it will seem that way to your parents) you’ll be a young adult living life on your own!

Fast forward about fifteen years. Imagine yourself at the age of twenty-five. Life is good. Where do you live? Are you working? Doing what? Are you going to school? Studying what? Are you married or single? Do you have any children? What do you do in your free time? Any special memories from fourth grade at Normandale?

Write a letter to your old fourth grade English teacher, Mme Powell, to catch her up on what you are doing. Please be specific. Write using complete sentences and correct letter format.

If you prefer, you may hand write your letter and turn it in to Mme Powell at school by Monday, May 19.

I can’t wait to hear from you!

Dear Mme Powell,
I still live in Edina, MN. I have a husband, too. We have been married 3 years now. Also, I have a 1 son named Glynn. He is only 4 months old. Glynn was my ancestor's name. I went to college at St. Olaf. I got my masters' degree, too. I am a teacher for 4th grade. After Glynn is older, I'll go back to that job. Something I remember from english is silent reading. Most nights I read to Glynn. Another thing was the I AM WILD project. That was fun. I like to take a walk every Saturday morning around lake Calhoun. The whole family goes. Also me and Glynn will sit at home and cook for hours. Making hand-made blankets and running races amuse me.
I just wanted to check in.
Sincerely,
Sylvie (married name)

Dear Madam Powell,

Remember me? I am 25 years old. I play hockey now. I’m playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins. We’re playing for the Stanley Cup right now and we’re winning the series 3-2. In my spare time, I shoot on my net and practice my shots. I go roller blading to practice my skating. Sometimes I invite some of my teammates over and we have a little scrimmage. We play street hockey. I live in a mansion because I get paid a lot of money. It’s in Pittsburgh. When I’m in Minnesota I can visit you.

Your former student,

Garrett SW#23

Dear Mrs. Powell,
How have you been the last 15 years? I am married to a decent- looking man. I have two children who are girls. Their names are Mariella and Annabella. They are about four years apart. During my free time (hardly ever because I am so busy with the kids) I would be most likely be found sitting on a couch all curled up in my house in Edina, MN doing a thousand- page math workbook. Otherwise, I would be playing the piano, guitar, violin, or playing the recorder. I remember those old days at Normandale French Immersion Elementary School with Ms. Emerson. I’d play the recorder in music class and it was so much fun. I really miss the English class I had with you. I especially loved writing a blog to you. In fact, I still keep in touch with my old Normandale friends by writing a blog to each other. We all have our own alumni blog. Thanks to you for starting the whole blog thing.
My daughters are going to Normandale Elementary School like I did. Mariella went to school first because she’s older. She was scared. And I know how she feels because I felt the same way when I went to school for the first time. I didn’t know anybody because I was new. I got lost in the school. Everywhere I went people were staring at me. Anyways, back to the story with Mariella. I packed her lunch for her first day of school. I packed her favorite, PB & J. She loves PB & J. I drove her to school in my new HONDA ODESSEY VAN. We walked together to school holding hands. I helped her carry her school supplies from Office Max. I met her teacher. She was brilliant, beautiful, bright, brave, and the best teacher ever! I gave hugs and kisses goodbye to Mariella. I left and went to work. I am a veterinarian full time. Since some veterinarians make a lot of money, I will use that money to buy a horse. First I need to E-mail Mariella’s teacher to tell her Mariella is going to go to Wise Guys in the afternoon after school. After that, I need to look online to see which horse I should buy. I love them all but which one???

Dear Mme p
I live in Tokyo now. The buildings are numbered in a different way. Instead of numbering the buildings by where they are on the street like we do, they number the buildings by the date they were built. This makes getting around Tokyo very confusing. I am working as an archeologist. So far I have found a couple of ancient kimonos, pottery vases and jade gargoyles. I am single and do not have any children. When I have free time I like to go hiking and mountain climbing. My favorite memory is the “I am wild project”.

Dear Mme Powell,

I live in Madison, WI and I am single. I am a fashion designer. I work for the GAP designing clothes for kids.

My favorite memory of Normandale is when our class got to use the satiability balls (it helped a lot with staying focused, concentrating, etc.). I miss you a lot.

Sincerely,

Grace(from class 2007-2008) GraceSW#17

Dear Mme Powell,

How’s life been treating you? Everything’s going fine for me in my little house. I live here with Greg my boxer dog. So what’s new for you? I got a job as a professional fisher. It’s the perfect job for me. Recently new neighbors moved in across the street. I never get to talk to them, because they’re always out and about. Also (this might seem fictional ) I saw some deer in the park! I’m going on a fishing trip next weekend, so I hope it does not rain during my trip! I’m going fishing for muskie up north in Ontario Canada. Wish me good luck!!!

Sincerely,
Andy J16

Dear Mme Powell,
I now live in New York (the design capital of the world), as an Interior and Exterior Designer. I have a show on the home and garden channel. (HG T.V). Me, my helpers and my black lab puppy Charcoal, help remodel houses for their owner. I get to travel all around the U.S designing. I married, and we have 2 children named Clair and Mirabella. Clair is 2 and Mirabella is 5. She will be starting Kindergarten this year! We all love to visit my beach house in playa del Carmen Mexico almost every weekend! That’s 45 minuets out of Cancun! I get to go visit my friend who owns the Palace resorts, so we go there and get the same treatment as all those lucky gests, but we don’t have to pay! They even let Charcoal come to! We also go visit Patricia in Tokyo, my parents in their little apartment in the south of France, Regina where ever she lives and my cousins! Sense I make a lot of money; I save some, and travel with some, but lots of it I donate to charity. I think that it’s so unfair that I make so much money, and they make none. My favorite part of 4th grade English class was t “I am Wild”.

Sincerely, Cristiana SW#12
