Week 11 Mmm, mmm, good!

I enjoyed some of my very favorite foods at Thanksgiving. I chose to write about one of them descriptively. See if you can taste it with me!

Every Thanksgiving my mother-in-law makes her famous sweet potatoes. Now, I have always loved baked yams, even as a little girl, but her concoction is the best of all. The orangey goodness is baked to tender perfection. A heavenly aroma of nutmeg caresses my nostrils as I bring the first piping hot spoonful to my lips. The topping, a lovely mixture of brown sugar and crushed pecans, creates a crunchy contrast to the creamy smoothness of the mashed potatoes. A delicate sweetness slides over my tongue, while the nutty bits of topping tumble down after. Perhaps I'll skip the dessert and have some more sweet potatoes!

So, kids, now it is your turn. What is a food you especially like? Think about how it looks, how it smells, its texture and its taste. You might start by making a short list of phrases that describe these features. Then weave them together in a paragraph that leaves your readers salivating! Don't forget to include a topic sentence and a concluding sentence to keep your main idea clear. I predict we'll all be feeling a bit hungry soon!

As always...
  • Write your paragraph first in MSWord (or another word processing program).
  • Reread your writing before publishing and revise it to be clear and descriptive.
  • Make your corrections - capital letters, punctuation, spelling - as well.
  • Add your first name and code to your writing (eg. James Sw28).
  • Then copy your paragraph and paste it in the comment box on my blog.

Dear Mme Powell,
My favorite food is regular brown and crispy diced sized cooked patatoes!!! My mom makes them, their outside is crispy perfection!! The inside is cooked just right with a sprinkle of salt and pepper, they smell like the fresh farm where they came from. There is a texture on the outside of the inside of the patatoe. It is slightly burned, a merrily crispy cookie dough brown. I always get second or thirds servings on this!! Usally I sprinkle a dab of my own salt and pepper on it! When you bite into them they feel so soothing through out your whole body you wouldn't beleive it. For the rest of my life I will love this kind of patatoe!!!

On Thanksgiving day I always fill my plate with pumkin pie. The pie is always cut in perfect triangle pieces. The top of the pie is coverd in whip cream. The golden brown crust holds the pumkin filling. You can smell the sweet cinnamon rising in the air. As I bite into the pumkin pie I first taste a cruchy crust then I taste the creamy pumkin filling. I love pumkin pie!

Popcorn


I love to watch movies because of popcorn. Bumpy lumpy surface. A soothing smell of salt and butter. Crunchy bits fall down my throat. Some are fluffy and white as snow. Others are as hard as rocks. Mmm more popcorn please.

My favorite food is pizza. At school as soon as I get in the hallway to go to lunch the crisp smell just makes me feel like a magnet and the pizza hauls me in. Never have I not got pizza on pizza day. One day they announced on the speaker “Today we are going to try something new it’s still pizza, just homemade”. So my friends and I were saying. “Alrighty lets try this pizza”. So we got in to the cafeteria and the smell was the best that I have ever known. It was great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So when we got into line the lunch lady handed out a piece to me. I got the usual: milk, 2 bags of carrots and some pineapple. So when I got to the cash register I punched in my three-digit number. A few seconds later I was holding the piece three inches away from my mouth. My jaw started to drop, 30 millimeters left till the pizza is in my mouth, 29,28 27,26, 25, 24, 23, 22, 21, 20, 19, 18, 17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. And right there was a taste like no other [but in a good way]. It was sizzling, it was crisp, it was wonderful, and it was just plain fun to eat. It was good. No, not good better then good, it was unbelievable. It was HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I slowly swallowed it, then I took 1 more bite, then 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. Then my masterpiece was gone. That’s my favorite food.

The perfect thing for Thanksgiving dinner is mashed potatoes. I form the shape of a swimming pool and then I pour the nice and thick gravy in the soft and chunky mashed potatoes. It’s so GOOD!

Pizza it’s my favorite because it’s chewy and gooey and it’s very mouth watering. Davanni’s is the most mouth watering. My favorite kind of pizza is pepperoni.

My favorite food is French bread. It must be crisp and golden brown on the outside and soft on the inside. I'm very strange when it comes to eating bread. I like it with no butter,jam, peanut butter or honey. It tastes soft and fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. When it's baking, the smell reminds me of a French bakery I visited with my dad. It feels soft on the inside and firm and bumpy on the outside. I LOVE FRENCH BREAD!Sarah sw2

On Thankgiving I ate all the turkey, it was soft and squishie, I had 3 plates of delicious turkey it was SO GOOD. After that I was stuffed, I felt like I was going to blow up. I couldn't eat a another bite. After I wasn't so stuffed I had some old fashioned pumpkin pie. I can still feel that rich creamy taste. Then I played with my cousins and we played capture the flag outside. It was so cold I couldn't feel my fingers but my team won. IT WAS THE BEST THANKGIVING EVER!!!

Chocolate is one of my favorite foods. It smells sweet and sometimes it’s crunchy or gooey. It looks so good you can’t wait to eat it! It can be any sort of shape which makes it interesting. I love chocolate the moment it hits my lips!!!

I love my Mom’s sweet potatos! They are the best in the world! She makes them with lots of mini marshmallows on top! They are soooo x 100 sweet! I love most any sweet potato, but I think my Mom’s are the best. I love the really swishy feeling when you swallow them! Sometimes they are a bit stringy, but I REALLY don’t care a whole lot. I also like the orange color that they are! I love to put a lot of brown sugar on top when we don’t have marshmallows. Now you know a bit about my Mom’s sweet potatos.

For the last three years, my sister’s friend comes over and makes pies. My favorite pie is pumpkin pie. Did I mention it’s Thanksgiving when she comes over? I like the orange look. I like it when the tasty pumpkin treat trickles down my throat. Maybe I’ll skip turkey and go strait to pies. Mmmmmmmm!!!!! That's good.

Dear Mme Powell,

My favorite food is a Cheese; it has this unusual little taste... there are very different taste and smell... it as this smelly smell that you can’t explain and forms. A few shapes are triangles, strings, cubes. The texture is bumpy, smooth like a table. The way it melts in your mouth and your teeth... ahhhhh feels so good. That’s what I have to say about my favorite food..... CHEESE!!!

Dear Ms. Powell,
I have alot of favorite foods and this is one of them. It is apple crisp. HOMEMADE. My mom makes it. I keep on constintly eating it and I can't ever stop!!! I can smell it miles away. Downstairs there is a study and the kitchen is all the way upstairs. If you stand right in the study, you can smell it. Infact, right now I am in the study and I can smell it now!!! Mmm, Mmm, good! Let's go get some!!!

Thanksgiving Turkey

For me, I like Thanksgiving turkey. When I start digging in, the turkey is very moist and tasty because my dad puts lots of garlic and spices into the big bird to add more flavors. When I take a bite, it is crisp and tender at the same time!

My hungry appetite encourages me to keep eating but, I remember the pumpkin pie since I can smell the warm and spicy aroma , that makes me save some room. Thomas J21
